I don't agree one does not need a biscuit tin, cream crackers for example get very soft without one. But I haven't bought one either. People give you biscuits or sweets (Quality Street at Christmas) in nice tins and, as someone (elle?) said, you can keep the best. I had one in an odd shape from the 2012 Olympics but someone snaffled it. Those kind tend to be valuable eventually.

There was once a trade in biscuit tin designs, pictures of Scottish Glens and such. This was a way for making money by cash-strapped artists. However, they had to sign a contract to say they would only paint pictures for biscuit tins. I have an oil painting of Glencoe by someone who doesn't and didn't exist. Apparently he used several pseudonyms to carry on selling his non-biscuit tin paintings.

Rosalind, that was interesting stuff about the artists and the biscuit tins. I mentioned earlier that I kept the 'best' tins - but I don't think Quality Street tins would be included ( a bit big, I think, and maybe a bit garish?). I've just come across another of my ex-shortbread tins - a lovely little robin perched on a snow-filled branch. (It's from M and S, definitely not as collectable as your Olympics tin.)

Rusty, I hope the random numbering sorts itself out once and for all!

Another web site says his paintings were exclusively on furniture (as Francis E. Jamieson, his real name, 1895-1950). My picture is by Graham Williams.

I don't like Quality Street tins or chocs, malone.

Thank you, Ros!
Yes, a sad situation in which I hope we never find ourselves.

Hi, Rusty!
How is it going?
Have you given up and gone to bed?!
Did you get my last post - according to me, no 26898 and sent at 21.16?
Scroll down to (maybe) find it......
I cannot fathom out what can be happening - and why - at your end.

Good morning, Elle.
Looks a bit damp outside.
Yes, I got your post.
That is good you are going to meet your friend.
It must be awful for her.
I am getting a bit disillusioned about the post numbering and the odd post not appearing.
I have this site on my Chromebook which runs on Chrome, my 'phone which uses Opera, and my tablet, which uses Brave browser.
The problem appears on all of them.
I have have cleaned, refreshed etc all of them, logged out, refreshed my broadband and wi-fi, and I do not think the fault is with my equipment.
I use other sites and have no problems with any of them.
I am pondering taking a break to see if the problem sorts itself out.

@Rusty
I looked in just now , browsing (without logging in) and your post at 0611 showed 26906 of 26905.

When I logged in, the same post showed 26905 of 26905.

I think the numbering varies on whether you have 'newest' or 'oldest' first; and whether you are logged in or out.

I have also noticed the odd post not being shown. I am off the forum to help a friend with an invasion of caterpillars!
