I think it’s a seven letter word for uneasy, containing a + three letter word for pants, rubbish, those four being reversed. The whole means a tonic, shot in the arm

Looks good, quisling. I’m not sure I like “sliding”.

The whole clue looks sartorially strange to me! I just took sliding back to indicate the reversal

Thanks Quisling for the wonderful parsing, as usual. Pants meaning rubbish is new to me, but found now that it is a British slang. I was restive. But a rot setback inside helped me to get the answer.

Not sure about this one:

Stuck in the same place with old friend (9)

At first, I thought "in the same place" was IB or IBID. But then I had the idea that the solution could be a chess term, made up of a five-letter word for "old" and a four-letter word for "friend." The problem with that is that the (nine-letter) chess term is a noun or verb (not an adjective). To make it fit "Stuck...," it would require a "D" (and thus be 10 letters).

Am I on the right track with the chess term (and the clue is faulty)? Or do I need to approach this differently?

Thanks!

I would say you are on the right track and that the clue should ideally start with the word 'Being'

Thanks for the affirmation, geting. Indeed, I was on the right track.
