Tatters I note that you are generally universally praised for this service but I am slightly surprised that you who presumably (like me) pay for the pleasure of the Listener are happy to assist those who don't. Sorry to be po-faced but like most print media The Times loses money and regardless of ones views on Rupert Murdoch I think they are entitled to be paid for their excellent product that we all enjoy so much.

Hi foinaven,

In the 9dn clue, the break comes after “gets”, and the misprint is in the second part of the clue. The answer to the second part leads to the entry at 12dn.

In the 33dn clue, the break comes after “reeds”, and the misprint is in the first part. The wordplay to the second part is the abbreviation of “are” as a measure of area, a three-letter word meaning “lowered” ( as in “prices were lowered”), and the letter “E”.

I think that writing double clues almost inevitably leads to some forced wordplay, but I don’t think that any clue is unsound, just some were challenging.

Hi foinaven,

In the 24ac clue, the break comes after “turning” and the misprint is in the first part.

If you have the appropriate set of seven correct letters for the misprints in Set 3, there will be a fairly obvious anagram, and one of the definitions of this word in Chambers shows the thematic relevance.

I would never have got to the highlighting without wintonian's advice to look at one of the definitions of the set 3 misprints. My worst subject, which is ironic since my lad has a doctorate in the bloody thing!

My advice to others strugling is to take wintonian's advice.

Thanks for the help, and the anagram makes sense too.

I have one left to complete the grid. For 6d I have 3 of 4 letters and am pretty certain I know which clue it relates to but...completely stumped.

Still got to work out the names etc.

Ah! Thanks Kirky. I should have remembered the Scottish play. Hark!....
Got the names and the highlights but puzzled by one that appears to be jumbled. (There's another that I expected to be but why the 'c' one?)

Isn't it just following the preamble - ie in one set (2 types) all answers are entered jumbled....so presumed highlights treated the same...

I see what you mean Crates. 2 of each type but not necessarily related to the clue sets where the original answer came from.

Good workout though from Hedge-sparrow.
