Thanks, Fed.

Tired after a long week, but I found this a touch lacklustre. Many answers could be intuited without delving into wordplay. Top half was a near write-in, but the bottom half had some nifty clues. Solving time wound up just under that of last week's gentle Vlad.

FOI 1d, LOI 21.
COD 24.
Second tier 15, 18, 20 and 22. Third tier 10 and 11.

I think I have parsed 19d, finally. Not a fan of this type of clue

Not being a crossword GrandMaster, I found it very pleasing to have solved this (albeit with occasional help from Crossword Solver) :)

I’m not a fan of 19d either. As so often with that type of clue I feel that a question mark is required: ‘do we hear?’ rather than ‘we hear,’ perhaps.

Thanks to Fed for a thoroughly enjoyable crossword.

As has already been sad, there are a few soft pitches (one for Geeker and his buds, there), but also some that required an awful lot of work in unpacking the wordplay.

Examples are the aforementioned 19d which I got from the Chambers thesaurus, 2d where I was sure the first 2 letters were telling me where to find the "prime locations" and 12a where I had no idea those letters meant "Nintendo".

COD: I'm going for 22a - beautifully elegant, just like m.. please Bren, don't, just don't 😀

Thanks again to Fed.

How did you all get on? Let us know in the comments.

Stay safe:-)

I've always enjoyed doing a Fed, after seeing him in stand-up, and admiring his earlier TV work. I found this quite straightforward, but don't think 1ac quite works?

Hi BigMacssub,

1a - I think this is quite well clued. You have the "president" (has) assumed single letter "current" then 3 letter "he had".

The "current president" was a beautiful bit of misdirection, I thought.

I am OK with 19D. Pretty much a homonym, and "stock" as in "he was of Irish stock".

I still don't really get 19d despite all the comments here. The rest were relatively straightforward.
