I got the 4, 4 after your hint...in fact I had the second word but was driving the wrong vehicle, so to say!

like, it seems, you all, I have the grid completed more or less to my satisfaction, except for the NE corner - and the instruction which seems clear but i have no idea how to apply .... And what's going on with (i) and (ii) beats me - does the second half of the 6-letter word go in (ii) and become the "simple derived form". If so, how do we complete the first half in (i) - which seems to end in O? And where does the solution to the second clue go?

All Round 1 complete and entered---but I can't parse
`Lost flower ...' and `Ultimately nurse' and would appreciate help (I've got the answers).

Then found the instructions. Guessing what they mean leaves me a grid
with twelve (not 13) unchecked letters. But no clues for Round 2. Are we just meant to find six words that fit and have the `leaky reasons' unchecked letters? This seems a bit random!

This is puzzling. (well, it is a crossword Bren), I've answered every clue and managed to fit them all in the grid but, like others, I have a completely empty NE corner?

I think I'll just have to take a break, and see if coming back to it later can bring about a PDM:-)

Strangely, missing only the 4th word of instructions, but have identified the 12 unchecked.

4 letter "cleans" (as a char might do?) around the usual 2 letter "plug" - answer describing wooden railings in rooms.

5 letter "trimmed upholstery" minus last letter/'trimmed' then 2 letter "part" - deffinition is "lines"

4 letter "which Roman) + 1 letter "saint" - definition is a slang word.'improperly' for "imprisons" (I didn't know it but it's in Chambers)

"easily grasped" is a double definition as the answer is also used in Scientology

2 letter "moon" then abbr. of "satellite" reversed/'spinning' - definition is "Is"
