Paul, I'd been tempted to say that perhaps you talked TOO proper - the R in Bath, Path and after the W in Drawing, are perfectly normal in parts of the country, parts where they think they're talking perfectly properly!

The homophone works for me. I make cheddar sauce - with 2 Rs. I also have drawring-room with 3 Rs.
