S_pugh, I had trouble with the FEAR misprint as well initially.

I worked out all but one of the thematic appearances by staring at the grid with half an eye on a list in Bradford's. But when I came to the last one I realized that the processing is systematic, not random, which helped to get the final very elusive one, with which I was not familiar.

Hi Novice - I think you need to separate out your A and B stuff as per the preamble - think of it as two halves, with witch in one and third speech another.

Novice, I suggest you draw lines on your print of the puzzle showing the demarcations between the two zones in the across clues and the down clues. There are four misprint corrections in the across clues for Zone B. These must be followed by the twelve misprint corrections in the down clues for Zone B. Altogether they make four words, 2, 3, 5, 6.

Thanks both. I should read the preamble more carefully!

I cannot work out the reporter at all. I presume I've got the original speaker, and I've got a source from B that the original speaker was in.

Not very happy about the fact that the misprint in Pam has at least two possibilities, it is such a critical letter.

Ignore that, I was missing a letter.

Square four might help with the speaker (in a manner of speaking)

Or rather the reporter of the speaker - too much sun!

What are the second and third words of Region A's correct letters supposed to indicate? I take it I am supposed to apply the replacement to the whole of Region A, or do I only need to do it to the areas which yield up the eight thematic items (which I have found).

Candlestick, it was the second word in particular that puzzled me.

Your second sentence touches on what I hinted at earlier. My choice is to apply the process to the whole area so that a consistent pattern emerges. Of course, I may be wrong.
