Samovar - for coves think 'chaps' or another common word for them.

For the other one think of a throwaway Americanism which is the same word repeated 3 times - you just use one backwards after the first element.

A word used three times to mean chatter might help with the physicist.

No misprints in either by the way.

Forgot to say I really could kick myself, as I never thought of that way of spelling chaps !

I am slightly unsure which of two solution grids is the intended one, arising partly from the second word of the processing hint, which I find a bit puzzling. I think I know which is the intended one, but I'm not 100% certain.

I don't even understand the processing hint Dryden, I have the 1st word but after that it all sounds a bit scratchy if you know what I mean. I must have messed up so will double check all my misprints.

The grid is surely the logical one from the 1st three words of the quotation, 'that place' being in a consistent position. I sense that there remains something more that is required than just highlighting the 8 appearances, otherwise the preamble could be much more concise. I guess that processing hint needs more work!

Think I found my duff misprint - fear led to two possibilities and I only spotted one. The wrong one.
