Why do people always help others with answers that I've done?!

Any hints on 24D and 28D (and I can't parse 14D)?

And no, dizoz, 20 ain't a verb but a number and 9 - as has been pointed out above, depends on three sounds. I'm still unhappy about the theme in 1d (where I can't find a 9) and 30 (the same) and if I have 24 right I can't parse it. And if the answer to 28 is a 9 (and not defined) surely we should have its opposite somewhere?

I think 1dn is D + is around a direction. I'm struggling to parse 14dn.

In terms of 14D, I can only think that almost the whole word is redundant as being a 9, with the initial letter tacked onto the end. Then the whole word becomes the definition. Or something like that.

It was only using such woolly-headed reasoning that got me to accept he only possible answer for 6.

Goodness knows what this makes 22.

6 is relatively straightforward. It's an anagram of "some b" around a direction. It's the same device as 8ac. I've got the genitive form of thou for 22, ie the definite article around a direction.

For 14d I took it too mean if you are "in this way" + 9 you a get a word meaning beginning to drop. Anyway, quite liked the puzzle, required a few goes at it which these ones should.
