Yes, I agree - I'm nearly there but stuck in the NE corner ... it's because there are so many versions of 9 used in so many different ways - and although the opposites seem to be generally situated opposite to each other, it doesn't always seem to work ... Always in the past I've been sure when I've got a genius right. With this one i can't be certain about much of it.

Given up trying to parse it but I know it's correct now because it works for the miserable dozen clues I've solved. Been stuck for ages now. A wee hint for 8ac might help things along. Happy to reciprocate although I probably have fewer solved than others.

9 is parsed in three sounds. 20 is a disc and a 9.

suppose I thought they were endemic to E Anglia ... I think 8 is an anagram with a 9 as the last letter - but the definition seems to me a long way off base,

You're right about 8, think of the first word in the clue as two words. Took me a bit for it to twig.
