It ended up being the most glorious day here! Reasonably mild, too!
It was lovely out.
The dog (and us) enjoyed the sunshine.
How far did you get on your walk?
Are you near enough to walk by the Tay?
I am thinking that it must be nice if you can do that?
I was just taking a look at Malone's clue and working on the premise that it might well be a homophone (!) , when I saw that he had already posted the answer!
Ah well, saved the strain on my brain cells!
I thought it a reasonable clue - to me, "soared" and "sword" do not sound all that dissimilar?
Better than many supposed 'homophones' we have had of late?

Malone, I did not know that to soar meant to 'rise or fly into the air;
just looked it up. Are 'soared' and 'sword really identical in pronunciation ?

Elle, Chris - Soared and Sword sound not at all alike to me!

Soared sounds like Roared, Hoard, Bored
Sword sounds like Ward, Cord, Lord.

I think homophones are excellent - when they work for all English speakers, not just some.

for me, all of those have pretty much the same vowel sound (except possibly ward). oh well!

They are unsimilar to me!
I wondered for a while if it was "hybrid", but could not make it work.
I was not on The Times setter's wavelength.
Found it quite tricky,
This one, for instance, I cannot quite see.
"See the writer's enthusiasm (3)"
I have "vim".
See is V for Vatican.
But to me "the writer's" is "my", not "I'm"?
Does not look right to me?
I hope you and others may voice an opinion?
The Tay is not within reasonable walking distance for me.
But a few minutes drive away, to Riverside, and loads of parking, and then you can have a good walk along the river, past the rail bridge. Though I would not venture as far as the road bridge as I would get lost! They have been working on the bridge landfall area for years. Many new roads etc.

It is good that you live near enough to reach the river in a few minutes drive.
I love walking by water! I should like to live by the sea! if not for all the year, then for a large part of it!
I should like to have two houses and spend a part of the year in each.... one here, and one on the coast. Suffolk would be good!
Regarding your clue.......I am with you there... I would take "the writer's" in that context to mean either "my" or "mine".
Certainly not "I'm".
Even if you disregarded the " 's ", and just considered "writer", that would be "me" not "I'm / I am ".
No, I cannot justify that answer?

It was interesting to hear that some/many people find Sword and Soared to sound similar. I think it's unlikely that any Scottish people would agree!

I've just read on Google that they even give 'sawed' as an homophone of soared - now surely that cannot be? What happens to the 'r'.
