Hello, Elle!
Scenic route was fine!
Even found Camp coffee!
ASDA had jars of their own coffee for 47 pence!
Very cheap but I wonder what it is like?
This frozen ground?
I understood that the ground was permeated with a gas or chemical to freeze it. They shored up the tunnel and built it as they were "tunneling" (one "L" or two?).
I would think that once the tunnel was created it would not matter what the ground was like?
I look forward to your finding out about it.
It was tunneling under the Seine that problematic.
Yes, Hopi looks good, but they are Native Americans not Indians, no matter what Chambers etc say.
I expect better from The Times!

Good afternoon, Rusty!
Lunch was good! We went to a restaurant fairly near by, which is an old favourite!
I don't know Camp coffee? I think though that it may be ringing a very faint bell...... I seem to remember my mother having some in the kitchen cupboard......if it is what I am vaguely recalling, then it is a liquid? in a glass bottle? not granular as coffee is now?
I have never tasted it though, of that I am sure!
I have tried looking up "frozen ground" etc but am finding it difficult to follow!
In some instances, it would appear that having established the tunnel or whatever, then there is no need to continue to freeze the earth.
But in other instances, it talks of the "ice-wall" being maintained for several years, even decades.
I'll pass on this one........!
I am just going to have a look at the crosswords.......
Oh, nearly forgot....did you go out for a walk? (re moving more?)

Hello, Elle,
I think Camp has "essence of chicory and coffee" on the label.
It is a liquid.
This is what I have found regarding the Paris railway.
"The crossing of the Seine also involved the freezing of the saturated ground between the station of Saint-Michel and the Seine under the line of the Chemin de Fer de Paris a Orleans (now RER line C) in 1908 and 1909.
The installation of two refrigeration plants allowed the movement of brine cooled to -25°C in dozens of tubes to stabilize the ground."
It was mighty impressive!
Yes, more moving today, but I am still going to swot up on granddaughter clocks!

Hey, Rusty!
I cannot believe that Easter is nearly here!
Good Friday tomorrow!
Where does the time go?
We have been buying chocolate eggs for the grandkids! (obviously not for the baby! I got him a little present!)
What do you do with your grandchildren? do you buy them eggs - or are they too old for that now?
Easter eggs are a pagan practice , aren't they? but fun for the children none-the-less!
My dad used to hard- boil eggs and paint faces on them, when I was small! He would even stick on false "hair"!
I loved it!
I don't think folk do that sort of thing these days , do they? Funny, I've never thought of that for years until this Easter!
And there were ceremonies of rolling eggs down hills......... does that still occur? And where?
Not to mention Easter egg hunts!

Hello, Elle!
I do not celebrate Easter. Don't think the young ones do, either.
I think Easter preceded Christianity.
I am not at all sure how you define "pagan", though I may fall into that category?
Nina is free to ride in the National.
The powers that be who suspended her and Sam Waley-Cohen did not understand their own rules and have changed their decisions.

Hi, Rusty!
Remember, we were talking only recently about Easter preceding Christianity?
- and discovered then that it originated as a "pagan" festival? and was only adopted later in connection with the birth of Jesus?
Easter eggs and such derived from this "old" occasion., and have nothing to do with the religious aspect now associated with Easter.
The kids enjoy them and the other "frivolities" associated with the occasion, like egg-rolling!
That is good news about Nina's being able to ride in the National!
I do not quite follow though how the decision came to be reversed?
I though she was suspended for over-use of her whip?
On what grounds was this altered?
Please can you explain?
And I don't know about the other jockey? Sam Waley- Cohen?
What happened with him?
Glad that all is well for them both!

Hello, Elle!
I shall try my best!
Both Sam and Nina are still suspended, but...
Sam appealed that the Stewards did not interpret their rules correctly.
They discussed this, and agreed with him that both he and Nina should be free to ride in the National, and serve their suspensions on other (correct) dates.
The Stewards agreed that their interpretation was wrong and the suspensions should not have included Grand National day.
So, well done, Sam!
I always thought Porter Wagoner was a female singer, but I am wrong again. He was a he.

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, I see!
Yes, that sounds fair.
I think if either or both have contravened a rule, then a "punishment" (such as the suspension ) is indeed just - but it is good that it no longer falls on Grand National Day!
It is well that Sam realised the misinterpretation of the rules.
Now you will be able to put a bet on Nina?
So who is Porter Wagoner?
I have never heard of him?
And why did he suddenly some into your head?!

Hello, Elle!
The late Porter Wagoner was a country music singer.
How did he get in my head?
Well, it is all Anne Murray's fault.
Earlier today I developed an earworm of one of Anne's songs, a particular favourite of mine called, "Could I Have This Dance For The Rest Of My Life" and ventured on to a website devoted to country singers, like Hank Locklin, Bobby Bare etc.
I was looking for Anne Murray songs.
There I found Porter Wagoner and read a little bit about him.
So.
I do not know if Nina has a mount in the National yet.
I follow her Twitter account but she has not let on, so far.
Hope she does. She has had five previous rides in the National and got round four times. That is a good record!
PS.
You know Anne Murray, I hope?

Good morning, Rusty!
We are experiencing a dreich day so far! It is however supposed to be sunny throughout the day!
Something has obviously gone amiss somewhere!
We are waiting for the sunshine before going out with the dog!
Yes, I do know Anne Murray! and I too like "Could I Have This Dance For The Rest of My Life".
But I know her far better for "Snowbird"!
And this has become my earworm for today! I now cannot get it out of my head........
However, I have never heard of Hank Locklin and Bobby Bare (what a strange name!)
Should I know of them ?
What is your day like? Have you been out for your paper yet?
Any plans ?
