Thanks,ChrisE - you get your full name/nomenclature now.

I wouldn't spend/waste too much time on that clue - it hasn't been chosen for its excellence, cleverness, whatever!

That's even better, Chris - I get confused with the various Chrises (Chrisses?)!

I've been called, amongst other variations, Chrissie and Christ more than once!

Well Malone, so far, I am not getting anywhere - too many 'rose' to choose from !

Chris, Pigale - 'Soared' is the answer! It's from the awful school of homophones, I feel.

Truly dreadful, malone!

....though, on second thoughts, a better approximation to a homophone than some that have been quoted here! (I'm not saying that it's exact.)

Good evening, Rusty!
It ended up being the most glorious day here! Reasonably mild, too!
It was lovely out.
The dog (and us) enjoyed the sunshine.
How far did you get on your walk?
Are you near enough to walk by the Tay?
I am thinking that it must be nice if you can do that?
I was just taking a look at Malone's clue and working on the premise that it might well be a homophone (!) , when I saw that he had already posted the answer!
Ah well, saved the strain on my brain cells!
I thought it a reasonable clue - to me, "soared" and "sword" do not sound all that dissimilar?
Better than many supposed 'homophones' we have had of late?
How was your crossword?

Malone, I did not know that to soar meant to 'rise or fly into the air;
just looked it up. Are 'soared' and 'sword really identical in pronunciation ?
