Regarding capitalisation for the purposes of misdirection, it’s generally not accepted to use a lower case letter when a proper noun is intended. So in the example of “Nice”, it would need to be the first word of the clue in order to conceal the French interpretation.

I am struggling with 14d and feel I may have incorrect crossers, although if the word is thematic I may not know it, as I see no theme. My crossers are L S A & T. Can anyone help please?

Hi Neville
Your letters are correct. I had to Google a list of Grand National winners to get it.

When I saw 6d I immediately thought of a famous clue by Rufus which also begins with “Two girls…”.
I read now that Brockwell had a similar thought. I hope he drops in at some point.
