Thanks Bren, I see that now.

On a different note I always enjoy reading the Guardian Crossword stats for the year posted by Mitz on 225.

Brockwell had a very productive year with 17 puzzles (up 8 on 2024) and was one of the top setters of the prize with 6 in all (the same as Brendan and Paul).

Cracker from Brockwell as usual. I would say a tad easier than his norm but once again clue after clue that have you smiling. Having said that I am stuck in the SE. I see a few have said they don't know 27a. A hint please because it's totally stumped me.

Also not seeing the theme. I may not be a fan of whatever it is.

Hi Rocky
27 parses as 1,1 (3,3) 1, where the 1s are provided by the first two words of the clue.

Hi Rocky,
27a describes a rather unpleasant tale in Greek mythology. It parses 3,3 inside 3 single letters.

Thanks Rog

Likewise never heard that word.

FOI 6a. LOI 27a. Hard to pick a COD there are so many. I'm going with 1a.

Thanks Brockwell. All I need now is to work out the theme

OK. I see the links now. I should add 7d to COD list too. Brilliantly constructed.

Hm, frustrating! I pretty much raced through this but was stopped in my tracks at the end by 22a. I have the crossers, which I believe to be correct, but just cannot see what the solution is. I can see a possible answer if the definition is the last three words, and a three-letter word that might be part of the wordplay, but I can't see the rest. Could someone give me a nudge please so I can get on with other things? Thanks.

The definition for 22 is food-related!

btw is the capitalisation of Hull in 26a fair?

COD 7d (once I had the last two letters right!)
