dhope, remember that Brockwell often conceals thematic references as partial solutions. For instance the first 5 letters of 1a (as he mentioned), first 4 letters of 25 and last 3 letters of 5.

Surprisingly, I don't see any thematics shared between neighboring clues, like the composer contained in (12a, 15a). A subtlety I halfway expected.

Typo there, should be "neighbouring solutions"...

(1d, 19) is familiar to US boomers due to a big 1970s environmental controversy.

That's intersting Geeker. When I was going over the grid last night looking for themed answers, I noted 1d, 19a and the controversy around the Tellico Dam but was surprised to see that it's actually a fish rather than a 1d.

11 and and 6a could be doubly thematic, because of the date of "World (Theme) Day". I already think 11 is thematic via the name of the relevant music group.
