Darlaston @ 66 thanks, but yes, I am missing something. I took the definition in 11a as "this". If the def was "What's prior to to this", wouldn't the answer be something related to 10, ie the number before 11?

Sealionsteve, it means literally what comes immediately before the capital “W”.

Hi Everyone

After a very busy morning, I didn't start the crossword until 4.00pm when I read all the across clues and some of the downs. I got a couple (mainly by guesswork) including the long anagram, but then fell asleep in the sun. After I woke up at 6.00pm and got the washing in, I made short work of most of it apart from checking some of my answers on DanWord. Is this cheating? There was only one I got wrong (20ac where I'd guessed "sleeping partner"). I couldn't parse them all.

I found this crossword much easier than the last few, despite struggling with my eyesight. I had an eye test earlier this week and have a new prescription which I am having made up in my existing frames, so am using old glasses, which makes reading the clues harder. I thought I'd finished, but see I still have 1d to do. So that will be my LOI. My FOI was 12ac. My COD is 13d. I had problems with 5d and 24d, the former with the first word. I didn't spot the spelling mistake in 19d. Ididn't know the compiler in 9ac.

Thanks Brendan for a relatively easy crossword

Hi roof
"fell asleep in the sun"! Lucky you. I'm still waiting to hear that my golf tomorrow has been cancelled, to save me driving 20 miles to find out it has been cancelled! It has been throwing it down here.
1d and 17d are a pair.

Roof I'm delighted you found this one easier than I did. I was worried last week you might have given up the ghost.

Onwards and upwards.

I'm not enjoying this very much!
If I'm right, I don't like the connection with17D & 21A.

Managed it all except 24d and am ashamed to say that I straight up cheated to get that answer. Sadly I am none the wiser, as had only come across that word as a nautical term. Can it be used as an alternative spelling for an everyday crossword term? Bit stumped (forgive a kind of pun) by 11a too. Any help with parsing those two would be much appreciated

barryc @27. I'm also stumped on 15/16 even though I think I've got all the crossers
