Hi Rocky,
5d starts with an anagram of “for”. The definition is at the end of the clue.
First word of 20a is indicated by “not revealing”.

Rocky7 - I think jono was referring to 2d rather than 5d. 5d was my last one in, and it’s a rather extended cryptic definition. The crossers might suggest anagram fodder, but don’t go there.

I did go there Rog but soon realised it wasn't on. There are a few words that it could start with. And in tge absence of answers for 9a and 11a I can't tell which. But I'm nearly there now. Just that NE corner to go.

I’m not completely convinced that the phrase (which has become known in a sporting context) is really used in the context envisaged by Brendan. I think, from comments higher up, that ‘our’ brendan might agree with me!

All done. Like Chrise not sure how much I enjoyed this. Actually that's wrong I always enjoy it to varying g degrees and usually Brendan in particular. But this felt like a bit of a slog. Nonetheless thanks Brendan. Efforts always appreciated.

11a was LOI and COD in the end. Not sure 9a definition fits the answer. But my parsing might be off.

Apologies, I did mix up 2d and 5d earlier.
In 9a “was” is part of the definition , so it’s past tense.

rog, the concert I attended was much more modest - song/chamber recital at local church - but highly enjoyable.
Two young touring French musicians (piano and mezzo / cello) performing short works by a diverse mix of French and American composers.

Sounds delightful, geeker. Any Ned Rorem in the mix?
