@Geeker, Darla, how did you get on with Brockwell’s “Casualty scene not the first for Brian” yesterday… I thought that would be a big stretch for any non-UK solver.

I have all the answers but struggling with two of the parsings.
9a is it a reference to a xword compiler i dont know?
11a i can see its the letters before 1000, but prior to that for me would be the number before :) ?

Geeker, same.

Jono, I had no idea on that one, except there was only one word to fit the definition. I meant to check 225 for an explanation of that, and the one immediately below in the grid. Also, I thought “wurzel” a bit sketchy. Isn’t the name properly mangel-wurzel?

Ed, I would be surprised if you don’t know the setter in 9. For 11, what comes before the first word in the clue?

Thought I'd posted this earlier but it doesn't seem to be there!

I am puzzled by 11: "What’s prior to this contribution from Ximenes (before 1000) (6)". If the answer I have is correct, I reckon it makes more sense with the first three words of the clue deleted!

Am I missing something...?

I think it is the first four words that make up the definition.

When I csme here I was astonished to see several people say they found it difficult, because I found it much easier than usual. Evidently it happened to be exactly on my wavelength. Nevertheless, there is one clue that I don't fully understand, & hints will be welcome. * In 2d how does the middle part of the solution come about? Assuming I've correctly understood the rest of the clue, it's 3 letters clued by "pace endlessly".

I'm afraid I disagree with Jono & Rogissimo about 19d. I think a British crossword puzzle should stick to British English unless there's an indicator that it's otherwise. My FOI was 8a, LOI 13d, and for COD I think 13d just beats 1d.

Rafflesthegt, yes of course! I thought of that word, but for some incomprehensible reason didn't think of that meaning of it. Duh... Thanks.
