7 & 24 down

I will read all posts for any relevant hints. However, I'm not sure 11A is fair - I have maybe heard of Ximenes as a compiler but know nothing about them so not sure if it's fair to expect me to. Unless such knowledge isn't needed.

Jen’ - no need to know about Ximenes, just use some of the letters in the word.

Thanks jono. I think I see it now and how very strange that the answer is in fact 'prior to this'.

I have 24A also now thanks to the forum but it's going to have to be a word pattern search for 7D and 23D.

Done. Don't like 23D but it's not the worst I've seen by a long chalk - it's quite acceptable I think to include old spellings when indicated.
