I've been battling with this and getting almost nowhere but comfort myself I didn't do Thursday's so didn't get the write-in! Thank you, thank you for the theme hint, it's given me a new lease of life.

I seriously considered going back to Thursday and doing that puzzle first to see if that helped.

Finally given up with six still to solve. Quite pleased to have got this far ,usually Enigmatist is is a nonstarter for me. Like many find parsing of some clues difficult! Some very clever clues eg 10a and the delicious 27a.

Forgot to mention the brilliant use of his anniversary as theme!

Struggling to parse 3 letters in the middle of 11d, which seem to represent 'idle'.

Yes, they are slang for to idle or lie about. I didn’t know that either but Chambers confirms.

One to go, finally, but I'm bemused by 25d. Are my crossers right? A_U_C. Is that even a possible word? Thanks.

Havermonkey, yes you are correct, it’s an odd looking word which means hooked.
