Remember 27 across well but you have to be of a certain age to have watched The Virginian as I did as a child!

Please some hint on 20 across - only one not completed.

20a was my LOI and would appreciate a second opinion. The definition is, I believe, the first word and relates to a physical movement.

Snowwhite - parses 1 3 ( the 3 being what you and I are for remembering 27 on the telly 😁).

I parsed 20 as:
Definition "double", the first letter dropped (headed) from a 2,3 expression for "once".

I see, you are reading "headed" as "beheaded"? Is that fair?

Top notch Geeker - I’ve long given up trying to parse some of the clues.

Chris, I think it's questionable but I don't pass judgement on "fair".
To me, puzzles are a battle of wits between setter and solver. Sometimes I lose. Is it my dopiness or setter's unfairness? Who cares.

20a - I parsed it the same as Geeker. Chambers gives one definition of "headed" as ' to remove the head or to from'.
