Anyone hoping for a more relaxing and easy solve after yesterday's Prize might be a tad disappointed.

Yes, many of the Everman staples were present but there were also some very tricky clues indeed.

Also, 25a is a spelling that isn't in Chgambers or on other word search sites and held me up for a good 20 minutes.

I also fell into the elephant trap at 6d and 13d was no stroll in the park either - luckily I know the work in question.

Thanks to Everyman for a challenging but enjoyable crossword.

Stay safe:-)

Huh, I couldn’t imagine spelling 25a any other way. 6d I think I must have, but other than being a supporter I’m a bit confused as to the parsing.

Enjoyable crossword though, not as straightforward as I thought, especially on the left.

Hi Stargull,

25a - It's funny, if I hadn't used an anagram solver I'd have spelled it the exact same way it is in the answer. It's just that both the anagram solvers and Chambers spell it a different way (although I've just had another look in Chambers and it does give the alternative spelling).

6d - As well as being a supporter, think what the the objecct being supported has running through it's centre.

Chambers shows the 25a spelling as an alternative under the top level header word, so I assume this means it can apply to each of the two phrase uses that follow underneath.

Bren, I just saw the Gemelo pdf. Nice one, don’t let the fame and fortune go to your head!

Most difficult Everyman I can remember. I was heading for a DNF for the first time in years, mainly because the whole of the NW corner was a mystery to me, with no simple route in to any of the clues. After more than an hour I finally put in a tentative answer for 1a, then another for 11a (the rhyming pair helped), which led to a PDM for 1d, and the rest followed. My God, it was a struggle, though! Far more lateral thinking than normal was required IMO (6d, 23d, 17a, etc., etc.)

JHmm, Jono, Jono... 🤔 The name vaguely rings a bell but I'm too busy to think about in now, what with all the requests for selfies and autographs.

I'm just thankful the paper came out today and not yesterday as I was at a birthday dinner in the Prospect of Whitby - can you imagine the security nightmare my presence would have caused! Well, I'm sure you can't obviously... whoever you are.

Thankfully, I'm a modest and humble pesrson by nature 😎🤣

Morning all. Thanks for the hints for 6d - I'm not sure I'd have got it otherwise. Interestingly, the alternative spelling of 25a never even occurred to me, which was fortunate.

I agree this was on the tougher side today, but lots to enjoy too.

A fairly speedy solve for us today apart from being stuck at the last hurdle. We've an answer that fits for 13d but no sense of what it refers to! So could be a mistake... Any hints?
