Absolut is a famous brand of Swedish vodka, and it’s absolute, 100%, without the e (lead of excavation). But it doesn’t really account for left in, so I don’t think it’s right.

A better answer is “purport”. As a noun it means gist, spirit, and it’s pure,100%, without the e (lead of excavation) and replaced by port, left hand side of a ship.

I had thought of “purloin” (to convey away secretly is given as a definition for spirit as a verb)…

PUR(e) + L (left) +IN (from the clue) but I’m unable to account for the O, so I think you are correct, Quisling.

"Veterans, given a place to stay out of bounds, getting on (10)"

How about prosperous?

Veterans are “pros”, then add “per” for a and “(h) ous (e)”, a place to stay without its bounds. One of the listed meanings of to prosper is to get on.

Rather tricky if it is correct, but I have nothing better.
