Please help in parsing/ solving this cryptic clue -
"A minor, say by calculus, deriving prime factor (8)"

It probably parses 3,5. A three-letter word in music of which minor is an example, followed by what a calculus is the Latin term for. Prime factor is the definition.

I think “A minor” is the example of the first three letters.

It parses 1,4 (style) then 2 (which is a 3 letter word for classic shortened) inside 4 (trendy).
