Apologies, mistyped @38 and meant that the 9-letter dance shares more letters with the solution.

rog, another funny error by me on geographic region. Weirdly, in the USA the 5-letter dance is extremely popular (and often associated) with people from the country of the 9-letter dance.

I rather like Pangakupu, but must admit that lacking GK I rarely search for his trademark Maori Ninas/inclusions.

Thanks ianwil - that was one of my unparsed. Just 26a remains (if I've got it right - I have small thoroughfares),

Same here, Ianwil. I feel if Chambers has an entry annotated as “chiefly US” then the clue should probably include a US indicator.

Chris, re 26, you have the correct answer. It’s a 3,4 phrase with the penultimate letter removed.

Thanks jono.

I agree about MIT being the indicator, but it's a bit left-field. I had no idea that the last 4 letters were a word in any language!

I've completely ground to a halt in the NE corner - is 8d partly an anagram?
