It only refers to the wrap-around, where appropriate, not the order. A non-jumbled answer starting in 6 could go 6,1,2,3,4,5 or 6,5,4,3,2,1. In other words, entered cyclically does not mean it must wrap around

raggedy, thats's right: the direction of the cyclical answers appears to be random.

OK, I came back to this and have now solved all the clues bar 6 radials, have got the two 20-letter strings, and think I have identified 8 thematic names (6 for sure).

On the debit side, no idea how Matthew 7:20 applies (am inclined to ignore it). And I can't get anything meaningful out of ring 3, which is worrying, given that ring 1 is very neat.

I guess that there's nothing for it but to try rotations in the hope that it might help.

Have to say I'm finding it a bit of a slog.

My head is ringing, having gone round in circles trying to solve unsuccessfully three remaining radials;

7 - I am unable to unravel this clue at all.

8 - One possibility - is 'check' associated with precipitation and losing a letter, solution being a trapper of sorts?

11 - I have an answer; if correct I cannot parse it; is 'sand' modified?

Any tips much appreciated to dissipate my dizziness.

Unstuck
7 - First word is misprinted definition. Wordplay is anagram of 6 first letters.
8 - it's check as in 'pull in a horse' with an R missing, inside an abbreviation of serial. Definition last 2 words.
11 - Sand is a misprint. Wordplay is 1-letter abbreviation inside an unusual word for 'thrash'. Definition last word.

8. Yes
7. Given (8), you know what sort of clue this is, and I suppose you've worked out the relevant letter. That should help.
11. Yes. The synonym for 'thrash' is obscure.

Dim, If you have the theme, specifically what is spelt out by the corrected letters and what appears in ring 1, it might help to consider where it moved to from ring 1. An on-line search should help. That will give you almost all of ring 3.
As for Matthew 7:20, ignore it. Its tenuous relevance becomes apparent in the final stages.

Blimey, this has been slow!

I now have about three quarters filled, but missing most of the south west quarter. Got the theme/know what extra letters and misprints I'm looking for.

I found this puzzle extremely difficult but am glad I persevered. Thanks Arcadia!

I felt it was very well judged in that while I was sorely tempted to complain about sparse checking and unclear instructions (how can one fill the grid without having any information about ring 2?), the trail of breadcrumbs never quite went cold, and between the theme and the clues, all was eventually soluble. The clues were as entertaining solved as they had been bitter unsolved. Quite impressive considering the thematic elements.

Two very minor points I would highlight are the unnecessary biblical reference (although without an equivalent, secular, hint, it's not likely I would've solved the puzzle; unlike other commenters I found that PDM early & helpful!) and the cyclical message from extra letters (a complexity which I didn't feel contributed to the theme). Ah - and carrying out the rotation was a little tedious. But that's unavoidable given this concept, I suppose.

Overall an impressive puzzle - hats off!
