The rotation of ring 6 has various ostensible possibilities, only one of which allows that result

Well done to anyone completing this.

I've solved nearly half the radial clues and all but one of the ring clues, but that doesn't give me anywhere near enough of the grid to have any idea as to the theme, so it's definitely time to bail out.

I've hit a wall with the last two clues: 29 and 30. I think I've identified the misprint and its correction and I have the common letters in rings 2, 3 and 6. Any hints would be appreciated.

I too have hit a brick wall, but with 5,6 and 23,24 and still can't parse 18. Also struggling with the thematic names.

Mack, in 29 I think cocktail is a very unfair definition and the last word has a misprint. in 30, regard "at" as very important.

Thanks, Gitto. I'll have a look.
5. Misprint is in the first word. The answer is an unusual spelling of a more common word.
6. Synonym for Viking with additions and omission provides a derogatory term for the last word.
I can't parse 23 but the answer is a synonym for the first word.
24. Definition is the first two words. The wordplay is a bit convoluted: removing a letter from a synonym for the penultimate word (not the weather sort) will get you most of the answer.
18. Wordplay is a literal definition of Geordies but missing the last letter, followed by an abbreviation of the Latin for 'in the year'.

Gitto
18 is 2-letter 'Geordie', + 3-letter 'lads', + 2-letter 'in the year'. Then take out an extra letter.

I think Mack is right about 18, but I am still stuck with 5,6 23,4. I know that the extra/missing letters are (in that order) a writing implement but I am going to watch the football now.

A good hard work-out - thanks, Arcadia. But am I right in thinking that it is not necessary physically to cut out and reorient rings 2 to 6, merely to shift the letters (ie the bars will no longer be in the right places)? And is what goes in the middle 2 words - the little lines would indicate that a third is needed.
