As ever, when it is pointed out ... D'oh!!

I saw the moo and should have thought of 'The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes." Some things are imprinted from 1960s school assemblies and never leave you.

Thanks both.

Enjoyed this though my blank is parsing 25a. I'm just not seeing it.

Once I got 1a and 28a this proceeded quite nicely.

FOI was 15a. LOI 24d.

COD was the humorous 10a though 23d was worth a mention. Thanks Vlad. Not too tough yet your standards.

if you put another letter in front of 25 you get another greeting

So after walking dog I got your advice Chrise and it still took me a while. I guess I was looking for a vowel where there wasn't one. I was so busy thumping and cursing the machine trying to get the penny to drop that I didn't even notice that it already had. Cheers.

Oh not Vlad again, I said as I started the battle. But I did get 15ac and 23ac very quickly. I have filled in most of the bottom half of the grid, but not many of the top half. I have not got the "write in" for 1ac! I need more crossers. I love 16d.

But I have guessed at some of them in the bottom half and I'm still trying to parse them. I have read through the thread, which has helped me get a couple more. I shall go away from my laptop to work on a couple more.

Meanwhile, can anyone confirm if I have the right letters for 14d, and if so, How it parses. I have T?N?S?I?H

Hi Roof, in 14d your final H is wrong. It’s a synonym for composer rather than the name of one. Parses 2,7, the 2 being the French bit

Hi Roof,

14d - 2 letter "French address" (familiar) + 7 letter "1960's US band member" (the band he was in was also very popular in the UK) - definition is "composer"

Your letters are all correct:-)

1a - anagram that includes 2 letter abbr. for "pub"
