I hadn't seen that for a long while and thought it might be the first word reversed.

Well, I was rubbish this week and totally outclassed by Mrs Pauly.
We can't parse 17d - any hints, please.

17d first four letters are the (contemporary) artist, then a five letter word for consequently minus the first letter

Gosh that was hard but enjoyable. I hadn’t heard of ‘the Great xxx’ in 9 but got the answer from crossers and second word. Too many great clues for COD but I laughed aloud at the naughty paulinesque 4d ;)
