That is an excellent point, Drxx. Title 1 has relevance throughout whereas Title 2 does not. I have gone for Title 2 because (a) as you say, there's no other way of showing we've seen it and (b) once could argue that a Title 1 became Title 2. But I wouldn't put money on that.

Since discussion has become specific.
Does highlighting the 2nd player not show understanding of the connection with the 2nd title without having to highlight it ?

CLANG!! I've got there in the end, but title 2 has to be in the final grid otherwise you haven't followed the 2nd set of directions fully. A brilliant crossword, and I would never of got the second subject without google - I was looking for a subject as per the first set of directions.

Yes, loge - I often get these things wrong because I value completeness over the demands of the marking (after all, how would they mark what they can't see?).
And there's no such issue with the Inquisitor after all - I was almost set on reversing something there too.

Ginge, none of the directions, neither the former nor the latter, tell you NOT to erase was you did from the former set.

That's what I think Gitto, though I can't help wondering if there is an alternative interpretation of the first sentence of the directions to be used in the second run-through. Overthinking, probably.

Do you mean change rather than highlight, ginge?

The directions refer to "leave the unclued entry empty initially" & "fill the empty space". When following the amended directions there is no "empty space".

X from the first instruction, Y from the second instruction and X+Y = 22.

Hi drxx, yes I unfortunately used highlight rather than write/include which I realise might be confused with the actual highlighting.
