I have a full grid and have the first subject, player and a related title all of which satisfies the allotted letter changes and new real words rubric. But while I have the instruction, I am still at the grid staring stage for the second subject and player.

Jack Aubrey. Consider the possible options for the letters in the unclued entry. The initial letter is particularly limited, as is the final. Similarly another one. This will lead to a title. We followed this trail, but unfortunately, we “zeroed” in to the wrong character for a long time. Bottom line helps too.
Interestingly, bottom of page 25 of today’s Sunday Times was a bit of a coincidence.
Finally, what to enter? Think we’re with Turast on that.

SimpleSimon - I'm glad I'm not the only one who wasted far too long on the zero option.

I was amused by the coincidence of the Times article too. Shame the other character didn't also get a mention!

Yes Loge, wasted a lot of time on that.
Agree it’s a pity the second character didn’t get mentioned.
In fact both characters are quite fascinating to read about. That’s what we like about the Listener, it takes you to some interesting places! Whilst we did watch Character 2 perform, we’ve still not watched Character 1’s film, despite being almost the same age.

It was all going swimmingly for me and by the end of Friday I had got a full grid, identified the subject, inserted the title, highlighted the player and got the instruction for the next stage. Then nothing. I had a guess - correct, as it turns out - as to which clued across answer was needed but when I googled it there were upwards if 2.5 billion results. Life really is too short for that.

It was only when I came here and saw loge’s comment at 21 saying “Title 1 has relevance throughout whereas Title 2 does not” that I finally made the connection. When I added Title 1 to my googling the entry I needed came up as the first result.

Thank you, loge. I just wish I’d spotted it for myself.

so many parsing requests this week! (Have answers, just can’t figure parsing)

Across 11: Harvest loaded in pound for trailer - only part I get is the trailer itself

Across 18: Garlic Belt? (Have the politician)

Down: 24 What are the “casino’s terms”?

Down 31: Got the Grampian channel, but “largely duplicate”?

Thanks all!

I agree there is a leap of faith needed in choosing the unclued down answer. I don't believe the "title" from the first set of directions can be used as a title again for the player found from the amended directions. I think the 2nd 10 letter word should be included.
