I would also appreciate an answer to this if anyone can help - and to whether or not they should be entered in English or in the "original" language?

Hi everyone BTW, long-time reader, first time poster.

There are only two three-letter words clued. so I think you need to split a six-letter word in half to use up the remaining two three-letter answers in the grid.

But I have solved several 5-letter normals. How do you split a 5-letter into two parts for putting in the grid?! The words themselves don’t split into two sub-words, and while there are 3s in the grid there are no 2s!

Life is too short for this one.

Hi all I think the instructions should read to start with the TOP right corner. Suddenly the 3 letter solutions fit.
Frustrating if that's what's going on

Perhaps we should send the link to this thread to the Guardian crossword editor. So many of we dedicated Guardian solvers have decided no the bother.

I confess that I looked at the first 2 clues and solved the second one, more often spelled incorrectlt than correctly!

...not to bother.

...incorrectly

I don't know what happened there!

I've made the three-letter solutions fit by starting in the bottom right-hand corner (although the four parts are not in their normal order). And I've got part way through entering other clues, but can't make it work. I agree that we need clarity about where it should start - the instruction may be wrong.

Nearly passed on this but I'm glad I did bother - the theme was so far up my street it got lost and had to ask for directions!

I think the perimeter words should start at the top left (not bottom right) and go anti-clockwise (not clockwise). Then the two three-letter answers fit.
