28a: means letters before M, plus L. It was a site for testing A bombs.
24a : very similar to the above clue, with a two letter old note included.
19d: see previous comments.

Thanks, got 24a and 28a now, so just 19d left to ponder. Annoying as I have all the crossers so there's only so many words it could be!

19d: it is also a synonym for clue! The other meaning is somewhat obscure.

I haven’t parsed 19D but I assume that the definition is the first three words. Think of a spray!

Thanks both, think I have it now and parsed. Mathi assume you mean 24d for the clue synonym. Wonder if I can make any more headway with the listener now!

well, i've struggled over the finishing line, having had the same problems as brendan and others. some things i'm not happy with, though.
11a "us ing fewer letters" seems superfluous
14a ditto "literally"
8d the first definition seems very loose if I've got it right, and "in" doesn't make sense
25d "in 14" superfluous

Nice to have a hard "Prize", though. 17 and 22 favourites.

19D parsed now that I have switched to the alternative spelling at letter six!

I agree with all those points Chrise. Generally prefer concise clues with no unnecessary bits.
