There is a song (The * Song) with that irrational title, but it would leave you two cells short with the highlighting. Co Caroline connection either, so I've probably got the wrong end of the stick again.

I agree with Lumen that we may not have cracked this yet but I think the art connection is the best we have so far (and which I would never have got).

...should be "No Caroline connection"

I think that the symbol required in row 4 can be generated by Unicode U+20AA. Or just written by hand, of course.

I may have missed it on the thread if it’s been suggested, but I’ve put a backwards E in the fourth one. Existence, exists, is?

I'm a bit lost here! For item 4 I have a symbol for a levantine state abbreviated by IS, consisting of two triangles. Everyone seems to have item 2 but I do not know this, presumably a book titled somebody's 'will'. Any hints here please?
I can't help thinking 3 highlighted letters for item 3 seems unlikely, as too many possible solutions, hence my inclination to starting at 'yip'.

Eraserman,
No. 2 is a fictional place in a book, a somewhat derogatory name attributable to the gluttonous habits of its residents!

Thank you Muraria. I haven't read the book, but googled the fictional place by approximating with placeholders.
Now for the centre, which i now concede has to be three cells....

Why can't symbol four just be = ?
As in one and one IS two.
I think it's going to be five common symbols.

That's got to be it Lumen but there's an off-putting element of indirectness that's not there in the way the other symbols are used.

Do you think the apostrophe should be included too? I can't decide one way or the other on that.

I'd say ignore the apostrophe. But it should say that in preamble really.
Still no new ideas for centre solution. I'm thinking famous not obscure, so Darwin, Babbage etc etc
