Another Listener with no PDMs, like the one by Gos - just tinker away hoping it will all be worth it in the end.

I can't understand what is meant by 'in the 12 cells', as there are 18 in each circle. Having solved only 13 and 22, with absolute certainty, I find they don't match up to the letters in the convex cells, so what do I have to do? Select 12 cells at random, combining convex and concave?

I've seen elsewhere that it might be slightly misleading. For the 12-letter words, the gaps between the two-sided cells are used - the peripheral bits aren't involved. Hope that makes some sort of sense! (I'm not doing this puzzle.)

I have to admit I am finding this a bit of a slog and probably wouldn't have stuck with it if I wasn't having to rest a gammy leg at the moment. Is the definition for 28 the final word of the clue?

I don't think it is misleading. The preamble states that "the six-letter word is entered in the ring of convex cells around the clue number, . . . the 12-letter answer is entered in the 12 cells INSIDE THAT RING".

I've finished everything apart from 15, which means that there are a few letters I can't place.

Any hints needed for other clues, let me know.

Planks, in 12, the first 'read' is the definition for the 6-letter word. The rest is a charade of 'academic period (4), easy (4) read about (4). The last two words are the definition; "read about" should give you most of the last word of the answer.

Demeter, thanks for the clarification. I'm not doing the puzzle, so hadn't got to the technical aspects.

By the way, a huge help is working out the thematic 12-letter answer, clued by wordplay only.
