Oh ChrisE that's brilliant! I love it. I have checked the weather, sunny, maximum 54 degrees, so I think it is on. I am sure Tesco will "deliver".

I know 'the chair' stuff is old, ChrisE - that's why I said 'when I first heard it years ago' and also 'it's much more acceptable now'. We've got much more recent - and irritating - management speak, buzz words to bother us now.

Great idea. Mrs J loves reading, so it will be a romantic meal on the patio, thanks to ChrisE's idea, with a good book and a scrap-pad as I try to come up with a clue for the title. I suspect "Tesco's lacking company.........."or similar will feature.

At the Cricket Club AGM last week, the new Chairman, asked that she be addressed as Madam Chairman, rather than "the Chair", as "I am as good as any man". She was too.

Jigjag, hope the romantic meal goes down well - literally (well, it was time the word was used properly).

I'm afraid I dislike the word ''Madam' as much as I dislike 'the Chair' - and Madam Chairman seems … senseless somehow! I can't come up with an alternative, but I'll work on it.

The latest U3A News has a Pedants Corner. Someone's ranted list ended with 'me and my mother' should be 'my mother and I'. Not if the grammar needs the former! (As previously discussed.). I await the responses in the next issue!

Ooh, feels good to be able to post here again!

SteveA, I too would have been thrilled to see the 'me and my mother' rant - and I feel suitably contrite now!

Doesn't it depend on whether the 'mother and me' is the subject or the object?

eg The gift was given to mother and me.
or Mother and I gave the gift.

Yes, Rossim - I think that's what Steve was referring to in his post. It's not always wrong, nor is it always right.
