If you are still around, Turast or any one, I have three more still to do.
I am primarily blotto, ensnared by eg Kolsch? (7)
Ascendant live black swallow out of the ark (3)
Straight-spoken jobseeker possibly (4).

I thought the "I'm primarily blotto.." was going to be Imb**er and that the Ascendant live black might be *lb. But can't work them out.
Also, I simply can't find a word for the letters I have for the "Fear of Romans" clue.
Any helpful hints would be really great. Thank you.

Ah thanks, Samovar....... it must be the heat! I'd seen the misprint but not underlined it so I forgot about it. Darned difficult, albeit rewarding, these carte blanche grids.

Samovar - the 'Ascendant' one doesn't have an 'L' in it. 'Ascendant' is an instruction.

samovar - Kolsch is a brand of alcoholic drink (the German spelling - 4 letters) around B, with IM at the front, and it's a kind of &lit clue.
'swallow' has w as the misprint - look up the 3 letter answer for an archaic synonym of the corrected word.
the 4 letter word for the person who might be seeking a job is a capitalised acronym that sounds like a synonym meaning 'tidy'.

Thanks very much, simond9x and draxx. I worked a few things out when I was dead-heading in the garden!
Your help is greatly appreciated.

The 'Roman' clue requires an obscure 4 letter word for human body hair (often used in connection with carpets) + I, and it is pluralised (the misprint is in 'Fear').

I must try the dead-heading approach.

Sorry to be late thanking you for your help with the Roman, drxx. Only just come in. I now see where I went wrong. I had an "o" instead of an "i" for the second letter of **set. How could I have been so stupid !
Very many thanks again.

I don't think dead-heading is going to help me much with the rest of this puzzle !

Hmm..... I've hit an inconsistency in my grid-filling so think I've gone wrong somewhere. The top-half is 3/4 pencilled in and I've just started building up the SE quadrant. My issue is in placing the 3rd from last Down solution (clue starting "One more...."). Based on the symmetry with the top of the grid, I believe that this should be placed in the central column, but it doesn't fit with the last Across solution that I've already pencilled in. Could someone please confirm, or otherwise, that 3-letter Down solutions occupy the top and bottom of the central column? I have my last Across solution occupying cells 6 to 12 in the bottom row, with the last two Down solutions crossing it in cells 9 and 12. Blimey! this one's difficult. Thanks
