953 - be careful not to select any channel from the low 900s!

Hello, Elle!
I do not know if the programme is only about NI troops on the Somme.
I take your point about other BBC stations showing it, but I cannot see any.
In Norn Iron, the Somme means an awful lot.
They even have a Somme Heritage Centre between Bangor and Newtownards. Trenches and all sorts there.
I watched the cycling but I knew the results from earlier in the week. Lizzie rides tomorrow.
Jess Ennis is going very well in heptathlon.
Her shot putt is the best since London.
I do not think she is going to Rio with the team, but flying in for her event and out again.
WADA has suspended the drug testing centre in Rio.
Does not meet their standards!

Good evening, Rusty!
As the Somme has special significance for the Northern Irish troops, I would imagine that this programme maybe focuses on them?
But we shall find out when you watch it!
I am looking forward to seeing the other Somme programme, later this evening.
What Athletics have you been watching? Is this the British Championships from Birmingham?
All I could find of that for us to watch is the third day of action tomorrow, showing on BBC2.
Goodness knows what has happened to Days 1 and 2?
Still, we get four hours tomorrow! So a full day of action for a change, rather than merely Highlights.
I shall look forward to it!
That is very sensible of Jess to limit the potential viral damage by only going out for her event, and returning home as soon as possible.
I hadn't heard that she was planning to do this.
I don't understand WADA suspending the drug testing centre?
(What happened to half a loaf is better than no bread?)

Hi, Chris!
Sorry , I forgot to answer!
No, I don't have Sky - just a rather old television set and a Freeview box.
(What would have happened had I been able to press buttons in the lower 900s?? !! )

Hello, Elle,
I got athletics info from BBC Sport.
It was cycling on TV.
I think you are right about Voices 16.
Think it was made by BBC NI.
I think the Ulster Division was one of the very few who gained a degree of success on the opening day of the battle, but at a very high cost.
Apparently the Rio testing centre said a Brazilian beach volleyball player had failed a drug test. WADA got involved and said the player had not failed the test, and have suspended the drugs centre as incompetent!
Jess is in Germany competing this weekend.
I forget the name, but there is a Jamaican sprinter who has been found to be infected with Zika virus. Not good!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, Kemar Bailey-Cole, a100m sprinter (won the Jamaican relay in 2012) says he has been diagnosed with the Zika virus.
He was apparently suffering from back paid and muscle aches , and had a rash.
Then a lump was discovered on his neck.
Later found to be a lymph node.
He's still training though and saying that he is hoping still to compete.
Won't he be infectious?
I shall have to look this up.........

Right, Rusty......
Postscript to my previous post........
The Zika virus can be passed on by sexual transmission; or by an infected person being bitten by a mosquito during the first week of illness.
During that first week of infection, the Zika virus can be found in the blood and passed from an infected person to a mosquito through mosquito bites.
An infected mosquito can then spread the virus to other people.
So an uninfected mozzie can become infected itself by biting an infected person.
Etcetera......

Hello, Elle!
That's him!
Yes, you find out.
I do not know how easy or not it is to get infected, but Jess Ennis seems to have the right idea.
An update on the cycling hoohaa.
An Olympic Association has leaned on British Cycling and told them to get an appeals procedure in place, pronto.
It may be too late for Jess Varnish and Dani King, but it should be helpful in the future.
Jess passed her final exam to become a personal trainer today.
Dani rides in the British Road Race championship tomorrow.

Hi, Rusty!
Our previous posts must have crossed because I did tell you what I had gleaned about Zika transmission. Although I couldn't find a lot.....
I have missed the beginning of "The Somme" programme because a friend phoned, so rather than play catch up, I will watch it from the beginning later.
I don't quite follow what you are saying about the Appeals procedure?
Who is appealing against what?
I thought it British cycling that were at fault?
Is Jess not going to compete in cycle racing any more - but become a personal trainer instead?
Or is this a second string to her bow?
Time for a coffee......
