Well, fellow contributors, am not making as much progress as I felt likely on first scan (I'm blaming a busy day at work)

Anyway, bottom half of grid full, top half pretty sparse. And small nudges would be gratefully received.

I've finished but am distinctly underwhelmed by the whole thing. MUCH preferred last week's challenge. Can help with specific answers if you like.

I've finished too - I thought this was reasonably straightforward. Need a book for my train journey now.

Is the abbreviation in 44a standard? I can't see a reference to it in my Chambers.

I've finished the crossword bar one letter - the last letter in 11a. I have the extra letter but just can't parse the clue. Could someone help please?

11ac CAR - (T)AP

All done and dusted but perplexed by 40dn. Have EVE as the answer and T as the extra letter but can't see how to make sense of the wordplay.
