I understand your explanation for 18d but am now even more bewildered by 2d and don't understand which 2 letters in 23d could possibly mean "times"?

I'm going to bed now, not just because I'm tired but also as I keep having to tick about 600 boxes with cars, traffic lights or briges every time I need to post and it's making me lose the will to live, so I'll reply to any posts tomorrow.

23d - You're right, I had the wrong answer - I should have twigged it when a generic term for "friend" somehow was clued as "best friend".

But, of course, we all know who man's besty really is 😉😉

I seem to have disabled the Captcha thing. I think I cleared the cache on my phone, or something like that.

I think all done now but was held up by 23A for which my answer seems much better but fits with neither 21D nor 23D. Assuming my answer is correct, no idea how it parses.

Great puzzle. But needed Geeker's explanation to parse 2d.

That was a great puzzle - but I still don't understand the strange numbering for 16A (4.2,4.5). Can anyone explain it?

Agree with comments saying great puzzle.

Hadn’t even noticed it, but I’m sure the punctuation errors 16A are just typos.
