8d - is 7 letter "penalty" then if you "knock out" a 4 letter "swimmer" you'd be left with "fit"

Any thoughts on the parsing of 2d?

A word I didn’t know, but a star (as in astronomy) shortened.

A tough one. Several unfamiliar words for me besides the aforementioned 2. Some tricky parsings as well. Mostly a fair challenge though; I note that 2 is not in Chambers, but it is indicated as slang. Had to use a search engine (never google.)

Yes, 2d is very obscure Darla. I note that it is in The Free Dictionary online, but you have to know what the answer is before you can look it up so....
