Well I started well, but ground to a halt at about 5.00pm. Thought I'd look at the forum for some hints, but my daughter arrived unexpectantly and it has taken ages to read through the thread.

Thanks for the hints, I now need to go away and think again. I'll be back. I loved 8d.

Well I finished, though I couldn't parse all of them. I started this crossword thinking it was easy for Brendan, but then found it increasingly difficult. Without the forum I would only have got half.

Parsing problems: 26ac, 6d, 18d, 20d and 23d, but I'm sure they are right.

FOI 9ac, LOI 22ac, CODs 8d, 24ac and 19d

A late start but found it fairly easy going until came to a halt with only the SE corner to complete . Got 27and19 and the rest followed. The cryptic in the Guardian Weekly was by Maskarade this week and was also surprisingly gentle !

Appreciate the clever use of theme but can’t say that it added any extra wow factor to puzzle for me.
