Rocky,

7d - you'll go through one today at the Emirates 😂 5 letter "goes off" then 3 letter "match" goes around single letter "length"

13a - 4 letter "call" goes around 5 letter "the king" minus/'out of' "line" - definition is "correcting"

7d definition is first four words. Parses as 5 then 1 inside 3.

13a 4 inside 4 where “the king” is absent one letter. Definition correcting.

Thanks both. Had the right answers just couldn't see it. Especially The King. Great thing about Tramp is the misdirection in so many clues.

So that's taken me lions share of Teignmouth to Paddington (about 2.5 hours) which for me is longer than mean. But as I said I love Tramp's crafty misdirection everywhere. Missed a number of anagrams first time reading (and there are many).

FOI the much disputed 5a. LOI 20d. COD I'm going 21d for the great parsing of the first three letters.

Thanks Tramp.

I had brief exchange with Tramp on the equivalence of the second and third letters in 5a with “before”.

He quoted the example “Be home before/at 12”, which I suggested weren’t really the same thing. He conceded that they perhaps weren’t.

Thanks to Tramp for a nice puzzle!
With the 2 in 5a, I didn’t have a problem personally: I thought of it in terms of the spatial sense of “before” meaning “in front of”, if you were referring to someone standing before a door, for example. You would say, “They are __ the door.”

Thanks for the update Jono, and thanks to Tramp for conceding that there could be an issue.

I don't know if you read my @4 Jono where I was wondering if that synonym for "mansion" had been used previously in a Prize. Initially I thought I'd only seen it in barred puzzles, but then had second thoughts.

Don't put yourself out, but I'd be interested to know if you can shed any further light on it.

Actually Jono, it would involve far too much research so please don't worry about it.

A quick search revealed Tramp has actually used it before in a clue for PIMPLE.
There is one prize puzzle by Crucible from 2019 which uses it in a clue for PILOSE.

Ahh, thank you very much Jono, I had a feeling I'd seen it in a Prize but wasn't sure, so thanks for the confirmation.
