Hi Chris,

In my list of clues where I had queries I only mentioned the 2 in the 1,2,4 in 5a, but originally there were three.

The other two were 19a where wasn't keen on the first 2 letters meaning "get on" and the 3 letter "sovereign" in 15d.

In the end i decided I could just about live with 19a and 15d so dropped them from my list, so you weren't alone in finding some synonyms a bit on the loose side Chris.

Chris and Brendan, I interpreted it as 2 letter 'get' with on as a positional marker

Actually, I've just found it in Chambers (definition 10) as in 'how did you get on'? in an exam, for instance, so "how did....."?

Having to add a missing "How did you..." to make it work is akin to B standing for "broadcasting" because that's what it is in BBC!

Brilliant, Bren, re post 10. IMHO it’s time for you to take a cold shower to cool down your ardour😂😂

Third attempt to try and post. Getting bored of traffic lights and motor cycles now.

Not finding this all that straightforward. Getting the anagrams and 1,9 helped get going. 4d already my COD as on my way there now.

Morning all,

I always take these on by running through the across clues followed by the down. I had an unusually high number of solves at this point then ground to a halt.

I too can't parse the 2 in 5a.

Also having a bit of difficult with 20d. Do the first two words add some unnecessary wordplay here?

Mi mackania
I was puzzled by that too, but I think they are just an unusually precise anagram indicator.
