18d holding out. First letter a NY city train? Assuming I got 16a correct. A Moliere type? Any hint would be appreciated.

16a was a new word for me, which neither of the answers I tried first were!

As someone said earlier, the first 4 letters of 16a are thematic.

Ach! I had 18d ages ago and left it out on first pass. Next I was thinking Mac and brandy. And yes now 16a goes in. May have come across it once previously in another puzzle. Thanks all.
