I'm sure you all won't be surprised that I'm finding this incredibly tough. I started well getting two on my first read through (14ac and 7d), then nada. I've cheated on a couple to see if the answers helped and still nada. I don't understand 11ac. I thought the first word was going to be "left" and I can't parse it. I wasn't sure what group you are talking about. Clearly I'm not in it.

I must remind myself not to attempt Vlad in future. I'm sure there are better things I could do with my time. It has been a lovely day here today and I could have been dismantling my summer hanging baskets. It's going to rain tomorrow, so no chance then. Anyway, I've a cake to cook for Bridge on Monday at my house. I shall have another look at the ones for which I have the hints, but look forward to something a little easier next week.

If you thought the first word of 11 was "left", you probably have the second word right. It's a slangier expression meaning much the same thing.

This is an absolute beast. I've battled through and filled a fair bit but SW corner is looking bare! 16d am I looking for a country? And can I have a wee hint for 27a? What am I looking for? Thanks in advance.

27a the key words are probably "twisted sequence"

Yes, 16d is a country. Not a famous one, though if you have a couple of key crossers it (and the "sail") will clarify.
