The online and PDF versions appear to have different instructions. Help!

Well, I have finished the PDF version, but I do not know why the online version is different

Yes I am almost done with pdf, with 3 across and 3 down clues to go.

No sense of instruction re picking side.

Seems UKGK heavy re theme, if I am right.

I assume that the instruction about picking sides relates to the theme topic rather than solving the puzzle. Yes, agreed, requires UK specific GK - I had to Google once I had identified the person referred to in the instructions.

Defn is 1st 2 words modified by removal of extra letter. Word play is an old 4- letter word for advice followed by 2-letter word for the writer, teversed.

That's the word I have.

The first 5 letters, threw me off track what with 7d ref.

Quite underwhelming for a Genius.

5 clues have alternative answers which would fit together when entered in the grid. I guess the setter couldn't work out a way to show this in the PDF.

... maybe the PDF could have a double grid?

Would that change 17a solution?
