Yes, because the bars are symmetrical.

Thanks, mack. That was my reading, good to have it confirmed.

An absolute beauty of a puzzle. Got stuck near the very end with 60- and 63-bar variants of the right thing. What a clever innovation in the endgame!

Dont think I've quite got this sorted. I believe the bars form three ' compounds' with four 'elements' in each. However I need to be a bit fanciful to make the third element looks it should and even when it does I get a total of 63 bars. In addition I have other bars which must be ignored! It's probably impossible to get me across the finish line without giving away too much. A strong nudge might be helpful. Thanks

Mullingar, the remaining 66 bars are 180° symmetric. To me, all the shapes are accurate without need for fanciful interpretation.

Sounds like you're basically there Mullingar. It's symmetrical so you end up with three bars making one character slightly 'fanciful' as you say, and another three making another character extremely fanciful as far as I can see, but necessary for the symmetry.

You ignore all the other bars.

Mullingar, you would probably find post 22 helpful.

Mullingar, none of the characters looks "fanciful" to me. Perhaps you are trying to add bars somewhere? Please don't.
All of the characters are essentially as you would expect to see them printed, with allowance for the constraints of the grid and of symmetry.
A beautiful, clever construction by Kea. Such vision.

you don't think the top bar on the fourth character is unusual? You've seen that character written like that before?
