Good spot on the 12a/21a and also like the 19a one by way of conrast.

Thanks geeker. I have heard of him (he was in LOTR), but I've never seen the programme referred to.

Hi Geeker, I've just watched an early live Jungleland before I came here. Great today, really enjoyed it. FOI 1 and several top clues. Cheers

Re Pop Trio - they started out as a trio and then the non-related one left (and went out with a member of another 80s Pop Duo!). Despite the band not finding success in the US one of them appeared in well known horror film franchise and had a residency at Vegas.

I'm late to the party because I didn't have time to solve this last night. I always love Brockwell's themes because they are the gift that keeps on giving. There are always more thematic elements to uncover covering multiple genres.

However, I don't think anyone has mentioned the brilliant 24/25 pairing, which would be my joint COD. It's one of the best uses of ellipses that I have seen in a crossword.

Finally finished. All round a very witty crossword.

Parsing of 27d still eludes me- I only got it from crossers and theme.

I'm also a bit unsure of parsing of 6d. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree but would 'Learner going missing in fall recess' be a bit tighter?

27 add a letter at the beginning and at the end to get an orgasm (if you will pardon the expression!)
6 take a learner off another word. "Fall" is a bit loose - I did wonder if it was a misprint for "fail".

Good crossword and an enjoyable thread. I’m 99% sure I have 2d but cannot parse it entirely.

Also (I know it’s a bit thick) I can’t get 8d - I’ve a good idea (both checked letters in place) but again, alas, cannot parse. Could someone do me a fava and give me a nudge? 22d & 22a evaded me on first attempt - I’ll dwell on those tomorrow over a coffee I think. Bravo Brockwell for the countless, broad thematic answers - they just keep on appearing the more I read the grid! Now I’m late to get home - must do a runner
